Description
A spooky, fun, and delicious Halloween dinner tradition! This mummy meatloaf is wrapped in golden puff pastry bandages with creepy olive eyes—perfect for getting the whole family in the festive spirit.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 2 black olives, for eyes
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a greased baking dish.
- Bake for 45 minutes, until fully cooked.
- Remove the meatloaf and let it cool slightly (this makes wrapping easier).
- Slice the puff pastry into strips. Wrap the loaf loosely, crisscrossing to look like bandages. Leave space for the eyes.
- Return to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes, until the pastry is golden brown.
- Add two black olive halves for the eyes.
- Serve with a side of marinara sauce for a “bloody” dipping effect.
Notes
For a healthier version, swap the ground beef with turkey or chicken, use oats instead of breadcrumbs, and wrap in thin vegetable slices like zucchini or sweet potato instead of puff pastry.
